Back in the swing of school life...

We are in the full swing of Year 2 life. The children arrive to school happy and eager to learn which has been great to see.

In English the children have been using their knowledge of nouns and adjectives to created a wanted poster to catch the wolf from the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children have come up with some fantastic descriptions like ‘green, beady eyes’ and ‘white, fluffy chest’.

In RE lessons this half term the children are learning about the Christianity and their beliefs about who created the world. This week the children have been thinking about what Christians do to say thank you to God for the Creation of the world. This would include praying and praising God. The children came up with examples such as 'God the creator thank you for the trees that grow apples to eat'.

We have sent home an optional home learning grid this week. If your child would like to complete any home learning activities we would love to show them off in school.

We hope you have a great weekend!

The Year 2 team.

A warm welcome for our new Year 2 Cohort!

What an excellent (and hot!) start to our new school year! The children have settled in quickly, and we are sure this was helped by having a great WOW day on Wednesday to launch our Autumn topic 'Do All Superheroes Wear Capes?' We talked about people who help us.

We had a visit from the Mayor of Wadebridge, and Wadebridge Fire Station pop in with their fire engine for the children to explore.

The children also played lifeguard games using the parachute and learned about beach safety with Mr O'Dwyer, and made superhero masks with Mrs Bodinnar and Miss Lake. All in all, a great way to launch our topic!

English: We have been settling in the children and reminding them of what makes a good sentence! Always good to have a recap! We have taken sounds that they were taught in Year 1 and applying them to sentences using whiteboards, ensuring out capital letters and full stops are present and correct! Next week we are starting out English unit on 'The Three Little Pigs'.

Maths: We have been recapping numbers 1-20, and counting in 10s to 100. All children have been given a Times Table Rockstar log in and we encourage you to access this at home. Please make sure you child uses the GARAGE setting as this targets the multiplications they need to practice. We finished the week exploring Tens and Ones and used base 10 and bead strings to make given numbers to 100.

RE: We used freeze framing to retell the story of creation. There were some brilliant freeze framing!

PE: We have started our units on Fitness and Invasion Games. This week we focused on bounce passes in Games, and how our bodies change with exercise in fitness.

Science: The children talked about what makes a good scientist, then we explored the different food groups and why eating a varied diet is important.

We look forward to seeing the children next week!
