Learning in Nursery

Play helps young children to learn and develop their physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills through doing and talking. It is also how they learn to socialise, as the children engage in learning experiences with other children and adults. The Early Years Foundation Stage is a play based framework that childcare providers use as a tool to ensure that children from birth to five years are developing and learning to their full potential. In Nursery we promote and implement how the children develop their Characteristics of Effective Learning through a range of activities. These characteristics are the ways in which the child engages with other people and their environment. They underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an effective and motivated learner. These characteristics are playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically. Please read our Nursery Prospectus to find out more about learning in Nursery.

Preparing your child for the next step
We are lucky to have access to all of the schools resources. We are very much part of the school and take advantage of what it has to offer. We visit the school library, use the school field for forest school activities, play games in the school hall and use the cookery room for cooking/baking. All of these exciting opportunities help to prepare the children for their next step, when they move up to Reception.

Healthy Under 5s
As a Nursery we are currently working towards achieving the ‘Healthy Under 5s’ award. This is part of Cornwall Councils Healthy Cornwall Service. We teach children and support their families about the importance healthy lifestyles. This is through activities and health promotion guidance in dental, healthy eating, physical activity, emotional health and well-being and accident prevention.

If you are interested in reserving a place for your child or have any further questions, please contact the school office secretary@wadebridgeprimary.co.uk.
